Shakespeare Uncovered

Friday LIVE

Air Date: 01/25/2013

Every Friday beginning Jan. 25, NET Television presents SHAKESPEARE UNCOVERED, a unique series of six films combining history, biography, performances, new analyses, and the personal passion of each host: Ethan Hawke, Jeremy Irons, Derek Jacobi, Trevor Nunn, Joely Richardson, and David Tennant. UNL Professor of English and Shakespeare Scholar, Steven Buhler, previews the series and its underlying theme: Shakespeare is relevant for any age, holding insights for anyone who listens. Vincent Carlson-Brown tells Stibor about the auditions for this summer's Shakespeare on the Green in Omaha. Theatre West in Scottsbluff holds its annual fundraiser concert, BROADWAY IN THE BLUFFS, February 2nd. Judy Chaloupka previews this singing (and chocolate!) extravaganza at the Western Nebraska Community Colleges Little Theatre. The Hixson-Lied Concert Series at UNL begins its second half with the CHIARA STRING QUARTET at Kimball Recital Hall, Tuesday, Jan, 29. Hixson-Lied Artists-in-Residence at the UNL School of Music, the foursome will play two of the great F Major quartets: Beethovens early Op 18, No. 1, and Ravels single quartet; along with the Henri Dutilleux String Quartet: Ainsi La Nuit (Such is the Night), a work of intense beauty both crystalline and dense. Tom Ineck previews the next Nebraska Jazz Orchestra concert SIMMERING VOCALS with special guest vocalist Jackie Allen. The concert is Tuesday, January 29th at 7:30 pm at The Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln. The Sheldon Art Gallery has a nice present for its 50th anniversary: a new Alexander Calder sculpture on extended loan, plus several new February exhibitions opening next Friday.
