About this event
FREE Among the vast number of works that GRAMMY-nominated composer Frank Proto has written, a number of them fall into a category that might be described as socially relevant. He has written an opera on the life of the boxer Joe Louis, a chamber piece to the poetry of Langston Hughes, and solo bass pieces with narration on the works of Dizzy Gillespie and Charles Mingus. He will speak on his views of composers being willing to take a social stand in their works. This lecture is supported by a grant from Nebraska Humanities.
