About this event
VIP Reception 6:00pm | Performance 7:30pm Featuring an introduction by ONE Festival Artistic Director, James Darrah, An Evening with Paul Barnes will begin with a glimpse into ONE Festival 2019 events followed by a concert of Philip Glass compositions. A fortuitous meeting on an airplane in 1995 led to a successful musical collaboration between Paul Barnes and Philip Glass. Inspired by Glass' musical idiom and simplicity, Barnes set to work preparing transcriptions from the composer's operas, resulting in the Trilogy Sonata and the Orphée Suite for Piano. Praised by the New York Times for his “Lisztian thunder and deft fluidity," and the San Francisco Chronicle as “ferociously virtuosic,” pianist Paul Barnes has electrified audiences with his intensely expressive playing and cutting-edge programming. He has been featured seven times on APM’s Performance Today, on the cover of Clavier Magazine, and his recordings are streamed worldwide. Upgrade your experience with a VIP reception before the concert and an opportunity to mingle with ONE Festival Artists.
