Sheldon Museum of Art presents a free bossa nova and samba guitar workshop on Sunday, June 1, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. with Mike Christiansen, guitarist for the group Evening in Brazil.
Accompaniment patterns, chord voicings, insight into Brazilian harmony, and basic improvisation concepts used in bossa nova and samba will be presented. Historical information on the development of those styles will also be discussed.
Participants are encouraged to bring a guitar, although it is not required. The workshop will be primarily for acoustic guitars, but those with electric guitars are welcome to bring them.
Those attending the clinic will receive a packet of materials containing accompaniment patterns, exercises, and information regarding harmony used in Brazilian styles.
The Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago has provided funding for the workshop.
