A carillon concert will be performed on Sunday, August 23rd at 5:30 – 6:00pm celebrating the 100thanniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, granting women the right to vote.First-Plymouth’s carillonneur, Kathie Johnson, will feature carillon pieces composed by women, arranged by women, or wrote lyrics to hymns such as America the Beautiful and The Battle Hymn of the Republic. The bourdon bell will toll 19 times at the end of the concert in honor of the 19th Amendment. The Carrie Belle Raymond Memorial Carillon at First-Plymouth was dedicated in 1931. Carrie was a professor of music at the University of Nebraska; and, organist and choir director at First-Plymouth for over 40 years. She distinguished herself as a teacher of music and for the numerous contributions she made to the music culture in Lincoln. Th e largest C bell was given in memory of Carrie Belle Raymond by the Women’s Association of First-Plymouth.We ask audience to remain in their cars; or, if choosing to be outside of their cars to social distance and wear a mask.
