About this event
OmniArts nebraska proudly announces the final production of its second season, Sunday in the Park with George, to be presented at Pershing Center in the Exhibition Hall (226 Centennial Mall South) on October 11-12 and 17, 18, 19 at 7:30pm with a 2:00pm matinee performance on Saturday, October 12. Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine take what little is known about the life of French pointillist, George Seurat, to create this musically-driven, fictionalized story, that was inspired by Seurat's innovative masterpiece, “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.” The part of George will be played by Dustin Witte, who is also designing and painting scenery for the production. Dani Boal will play Dot, George's model and muse. Part of the show’s structure includes a dynamic cast of magical, complex and humorous characters from the painting who become fully realized as George paints them into his world. This cast includes Sandra Van Pelt, Kirstin Frosheiser, Brent Welch, Melissa Lewis, Bret Olsen, Karen Freimund Wills, Lauren Silverman Durban, Isabel Ketler, Stuart Richey, Jessie Porter, Michael Trutna, Mark Mesarch, and Bronson Gierhan. Daniel Kubert will direct, with Kerry Fina as musical director. Lighting design and technical assistance by Tom Curtright, CDS, Inc., and Julie Douglass will design the costumes. Technical Direction will be provided by Kyle T. Lorenz, and Emma Louise Waechter is stage manager. The true magic of Sunday in the Park with George is that it illustrates the cycles of life we all experience; the moments of emotional turmoil when we doubt ourselves, and the joy from creating beauty and order out of such chaos on the blank canvas of our lives. Filled with lush, swelling music, Sunday in the Park with George uses thematic illustrations of the artistic process to call the audience to not only listen, but to act on creative impulses. OmniArts nebraska shares this mission and creates innovative, artistic productions that make an engaging, enlightening and inspiring impact on the communities they serve. Sunday in the Park with George is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
