About this event
Sheldon Museum of Art joins the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) and hundreds of institutions across North America in celebrating the 10th anniversary year of Art Museum Day. Sheldon invites visitors to bring their brown-bag lunches to Look at Lunchtime at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 16. The event will begin with a 15-minute discussion of two etchings by William Hogarth: “Beer Street” and “Gin Lane,” which were originally published in Britain as part of a campaign against the uncontrolled production and sale of cheap gin, leading to the Gin Act of 1751. The prints are on view at Sheldon in the exhibition “Table Manners: Art and Food.” Following the discussion, the museum will provide ginger ale and root beer for participants and will set up tables for brown-bag picnicking. Admission is free.
