About this event
Description:
LUX Center for the Arts presents “Views Removed” by Dana Fritz and Ryan Crotty Paintings. These exhibitions will have an opening reception January 5, 5-8 p.m. Dana Fritz is a Professor in the School of Art, Art History & Design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She holds a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from Arizona State University. The photographs in her exhibition "Views Removed" render trees, stones and other natural materials in ways that their scale and perspective become ambiguous, sometimes combining more than one negative to create a “landscape view” that exists only in the final print. The photographs are inspired by questions about Eastern and Western pictorial space, landscape as construct, and the inherent tension between the real and ideal. The "Views Removed" series includes small editions of gelatin silver prints on 20x8 inch or 20x16 inch paper. Ryan Crotty earned his BFA in painting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his MFA in painting from Syracuse University. He has exhibited work in Nebraska, as well as New York, Chicago and Berlin. Ryan uses new mediums and unconventional painting techniques to create all-over compositions of complex constructions of color. Ryan’s reductive paintings evoke a meditative reaction capable of accessing the deeper meanings behind the unadorned style and system-bound concepts of Minimalism. The LUX participates in the city-wide art walk in Lincoln, NE every first Friday of the month. Our opening reception is from 5-8 p.m. with scheduled artist talks at 6 p.m. LUX Center for the Arts is free and open to the public. Free parking is available on the west side of the building just off of 48th and Baldwin. LUX Center for the Arts is located in historic University Place at 2601 N. 48th Street.
