Description:
MUSEUM ANNOUNCES ARTIST OF THE MONTH FOR JULY 2019 The Robert Henri Museum and Art Gallery is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its Artist of the Month for July 2019. This month’s artist is the late Edith La Fern Worrell. Her work will be on display at the museum and available for viewing. She is a well-known area artist whose paintings are much sought after. A reception will take place at the museum on July 6, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. to honor her life. Edith La Fern Worrell (1897-1992) was born on a farm southwest of Cozad, Nebraska to William and Arminta Craig. She grew up in the Midwest, attending school at District 29 south of Cozad and at Kearney, where she graduated from high school. She attended Kearney Normal School (now the University of Nebraska at Kearney) and also Columbia College of Expression and Art in Chicago, Illinois majoring in art and physical education. A talented local artist, Fern was a member of the Cozad and Lexington Art Clubs. Most of her works are landscape paintings. She looked for pictures in magazines and took snapshots of subjects that she wanted to paint. There are over ninety recorded paintings, the earliest two were in 1921, one of a rose and the other of a ship at sea. Many of her paintings won prizes at various local and state art shows and fairs. The Artist of the Month program, in its sixth year, was established to encourage understanding and appreciation of the arts in central Nebraska and to promote the legacy of Robert Henri, one of America’s greatest art instructors. He taught hundreds and hundreds of students over his long career including Edward Hopper, Rockwell Kent, Marjorie Ryerson and Elizabeth Grandin.
