Courtney Kenny, Omaha artist, Exhibit at the KHN Center
Omaha artist, Courtney Kenny brings a collection of her whimsical, figurative works to Nebraska City for a solo exhibition at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts (KHN). The exhibition, entitled “I can’t even draw a stick figure…so I don’t”, opened on Monday, July 8 featuring works in charcoal and other media that depict the human form and what it means to be human.
Born and raised in Omaha, NE, Courtney Kenny is both an illustrator and painter. With a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and a focus in drawing from Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS, Kenny has exhibited work throughout Nebraska, Kansas, Illinois, and New York. Kenny’s work focuses largely on people and domesticated animals as a subject matter because of the wide array of emotive qualities for which they allow. She has been in numerous juried exhibitions and received “Special International Recognition” from Upstream People Gallery for multiple pieces in two separate juried exhibitions, as well as Best of Painting at the juried Messiah Art Exhibition in 2011.
A reception for the artist is scheduled for Thursday, August 1 from 5 - 7 p.m. in conjunction with a First Thursday Open Studio event. Both the exhibit and the reception are free, handicap accessible, and open to the public. All ages are welcome.
The KHN Center, originally built in 1969 as a luxury communal home, has become a renowned artist residency program and exhibiting gallery space.
