Painting Nebraska's Legacy salutes the state’s 150th anniversary of statehood telling the history of the state, its culture and its people through the art of Todd Williams. His ‘tour’ around the state provides the thread that tells the stories of the land and people of the state. It also brings attention to Nebraska’s natural beauty, pioneer past and promise of the future. Williams has worked extensively in Europe and America and the “Legacy of Nebraska” project is something the award-winning artist is driven to do for his native home.
Painting Nebraska's Legacy is a 60-minute program that follows Williams on research, fieldwork and painting in his studio and reveals many of the paintings he has completed. Interviews include Nebraskans who are assisting Williams to discuss his paintings and notable Nebraskans to talk about the state, its history, culture and people. Interviews include Twyla Hansen, David Wishart, Judi Gaiashkibos, Michael Smith and Cherrie Beam-Callaway.
Nebraska native Todd Williams is ambitious. He is creating at least one painting from each of Nebraska’s 93 counties in honor, tribute and recognition of the state’s sesquicentennial. Williams’ project is thorough. He’s traveled to every county in the state to research, interview and discover what should be painted to represent that 1/93rd of Nebraska. Williams’ artwork is from the heart. His ability to paint any subject using spontaneous brushwork is appreciated by art experts and casual viewers alike.
