LINCOLN, Neb. (Jan. 2, 2014) -- Begin the new year with an installment of history and the arts when NET Television’s “Nebraska Stories” travels across the state to chronicle a variety of Nebraska activities and tales.  This episode of the monthly series that tells compelling, personal tales of Nebraskans and Nebraska life airs Sunday, Jan. 12, at 9 p.m. CT on NET1.

Shakespeare and the Wild West! Take a trip to Valentine, Neb., as Nebraska Shakespeare, an Omaha-based non-profit professional theatre company, travels to the heart of cowboy country to present a performance of the Bard’s “Twelfth Night.”

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Sheldon Museum of Art has recently been named to the National Register of Historic Places.  See some of the museum’s world-class collection of paintings and sculptures and learn about a brand new acquisition -- all to celebrate the Sheldon’s 50th anniversary and the 125th anniversary of the Sheldon Art Association.

The Ashfall Fossil Beds in northeast Nebraska are the inspiration for a composition by Randy Banks for the Nebraska Chamber Players. Some 12 million years ago a volcanic eruption buried alive elephants, camels and rhinos under volcanic ash.  In another segment, travel back to 1949 when blizzard snow and winds devastated Nebraska ranchers, farmers and city dwellers.

This episode of “Nebraska Stories” will repeat on NET1 on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 11 p.m. CT; Friday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. CT; and Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 11 p.m. CT.  Viewers can also watch the above segments and more by visiting the “Nebraska Stories” website at www.netnebraska.org/nebraskastories/.
