Give Thanks and Talk Turkey on NET Radio


LINCOLN, Neb. (Nov. 14, 2013) - - NET Radio offers special programs on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 28 to help the cook in the household, and entertain with music, conversation and poetry to give thanks and reflect on the day’s meaning.

The Splendid Table’s Turkey Confidential is a live, two-hour call-in program from 10 a.m.- noon CT for public radio listeners across the nation. Lynne Rossetto Kasper, the show’s award-winning host, will answer listener questions throughout the program, which has become a Thanksgiving morning tradition. Past shows have included everything from a cross-country trucker cooking his Thanksgiving dinner on the manifold to a panicked first-time cook who didn't realize a turkey needs to be thawed. From noon-1 p.m. CT, Thanksgiving with Cantus features one of the nation’s premiere men’s vocal ensembles.

From 1-3 p.m. CT, NET Radio will also air Giving Thanks: A Celebration of Fall, Food and Gratitude.  John Birge hosts this original two-hour show featuring music and thoughtful conversation appropriate for a day of family and giving. Music this year features a tribute to Bach, including Simone Dinnerstein; Eric Whitacre’s gorgeous setting of e.e. cumming’s i thank You God for most this amazing; and Dawn Upshaw singing Maria Schneider’s breathtaking new setting of Winter Morning Walks by Poet Laureate (and Nebraskan) Ted Kooser, who introduces the poem. And continuing a Giving Thanks tradition, a spellbinding story from actor Charles Laughton gives thanks for art that connects us all to the creative spirit.
