NET Honored Nationally For Promotion Campaign

LINCOLN, Neb. (Oct. 30, 2013) -- NET Communications professionals took top national honors for the promotion campaign “Great Plains: America’s Lingering Wild” during the NETA (National Educational Telecommunications Association) Awards. NET General Manager Mark Leonard and Communications Manager Mary Jane Winquest were on hand to receive the honor October 21 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The awards showcased public television’s best work in community engagement, content production, instructional services and promotion during the association’s annual professional development conference.

“Great Plains: America’s Lingering Wild” premiered November 25, 2012 on NET Television and is based on the book of the same name by acclaimed Nebraska photographer Michael Forsberg.  The two-hour documentary examines what bits of wildness remain in the 10 states that comprise the Great Plains as it captures the places and creatures that remain after 150 years of settlement, as well as the people who care and preserve its fragile ecosystem.  It is a co-production of NET Television and Michael Forsberg Photography and has recently aired on PBS stations around the country.  Through November, more than 100 million households in 47 states have had the opportunity to watch the documentary on their local PBS stations.

“The talent of our writers and designers earned the highest praise from the judges,” said Leonard.   “Even though five was considered the top mark, they said we earned a six, it was that well done.”

NET Communications professionals recognized for their work include Larry Kubert, Ann Tillery, Diana Fujan, Kristi Koser and Mary Jane Winquest.
