At a Senate hearing Wednesday morning that got testy at times, outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took responsibility for the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and said lessons would be learned and steps taken to improve security.

"I am determined to leave the State Department and our country safer, stronger, and more secure," she said in her opening statement.

Clinton again testifies before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Wednesday afternoon.
