NET Contest Honors Young Nebraskans for Writing Skills

LINCOLN, Neb. (May 28, 2020) – Nebraska students in grades K-3 put their creative writing and illustrating skills on display during the 2020 NET PBS KIDS Writers Contest.

NET, Nebraska’s PBS & NPR Stations, is recognizing a dozen young authors for using their creative writing skills in their own original works, including fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

Judges read and scored 59 entries from 29 Nebraska towns and selected first, second and third place winners from each grade level.

Violet Nuss of Gretna and Alisha Singh of Omaha were returning winners from the 2019 NET PBS KIDS Writers Contest with their stories, “Violet and Blaire at the County Fair” and “Tasha and Rose – From Foe to Friend.”

First -- “Violet and Blaire at the County Fair,” by Violet Nuss of Gretna

Second -- “The Pineapple Ninja Family,” by Ezekiel Nordhues of Riverdale

Third -- “Harry's Dino Day,” by Emerson Lee of Mead

Second Grade:

First -- “The Little Mouse Who Heard ‘Whoo,’” by Eloise King of Omaha

Second -- “Cover Up Makes Friends,” By Mohnish Sai Gunda of Omaha

Third -- “Girls Back in Time,” by Liz Pattathil of Omaha

Third Grade:

First -- “Tasha and Rose - From Foe to Friend,” by Alisha Singh of Omaha

Second -- “Tim and the Trees,” by Jillian Wells of St. Paul

Third -- “Saving Stardust,” by Amorita Payne of Lincoln

Each of the contest winners received a bag filled with items featuring characters from PBS KIDS series.
