Nebraska Native is Host for New Lifestyle Series on NET

LINCOLN, Neb. (April 26, 2019) – Nebraska native J Schwanke is host of the new public television series “Life in Bloom,” premiering on NET, Nebraska’s PBS & NPR Stations, at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, May 11.

The lifestyle series offers tips for flower arrangement, design and crafts, as well as recipes for food and beverages that include flowers.

For more than 125 years, Schwanke’s family operated Green’s Greenhouses in Fremont, Neb. His great-grandfather started the business in 1896 when he began growing palm trees on the seven-acre property. “They were the traditional old, glass greenhouses that were dug down into the soil. There were rose houses, carnation houses and mum houses,” said Schwanke.

As the business passed from generation to generation, the Schwanke family became icons in the flower industry. And, although he lives in Michigan now, Schwanke says flowers and Nebraska have always been part of his life. “If you pull a plant out of the ground, some of its roots still stay there. I think that when I come back, I feel those roots are still there.”
