Lincoln, Neb. (May 16, 2017) – Broadcast live from the U.S. Capitol, the 28th annual “National Memorial Day Concert” will air at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. CT, Sunday, May 28, on NET. This multi-award winning television event has become an American tradition, honoring the military service and sacrifice of all our men and women in uniform, their families at home and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Laurence Fishburne joins Joe Mantegna to host this year’s tribute to our heroes past and present.  The all-star lineup includes General Colin Powell, Grammy-Award winning classical star Renée Fleming, recording artist and actress Vanessa Williams, country music star Scotty McCreery, legendary Irish tenor Ronan Tynan and British performer Russell Watson with the National Symphony Orchestra.

Gary Sinise will present a 75th anniversary tribute to the daring Doolittle Raiders who changed the course of WWII in the Pacific when 80 aviators flew 16 bombers over Tokyo in retaliation for the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The sole surviving member, 101 year-old Lt. Col. Dick Cole, will be recognized.

A celebration of the 70th anniversary of the United States Air Force is also planned along with skilled aviators of WWII, the Tuskegee Airmen. These legendary African-American pioneers will be honored by Laurence Fishburne, who received an Emmy nomination for his role in the highly acclaimed film “The Tuskegee Airmen.”
