‘Backyard Farmer’ Hosts Season Finale Broadcast Event Sept. 8

LINCOLN, Neb. (Aug. 26, 2019) – “Backyard Farmer” fans are invited to be part of the audience at the “live” recording of the season finale broadcast on Sunday, Sept. 8, in the Backyard Farmer Garden, at 3850 Center Street on the East Campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The popular lawn and garden series is a production of NET, Nebraska’s PBS and NPR Stations, and Nebraska Extension.

A question and answer session with expert panelists runs from 1-1:45 p.m. CT, with the recording of the show beginning at 2 p.m. CT. The audience is invited to bring plant and pest samples to the session.

Nebraska Extension landscape horticulture specialist Kim Todd will host the program along with Nebraska Extension experts Jody Green, Bill Kreuser, Amy Timmerman and Elizabeth Killinger. The season finale show will air at 7 p.m. CT, Thursday, Sept. 12, on NET.

The event will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Backyard Farmer Garden and feature the annual garden time lapse, showing how it grew from April to September in just three minutes. The longest-running, locally-produced television series in the nation, “Backyard Farmer” has been a perennial favorite for 67 growing seasons.

If there is inclement weather on Sept. 8, the outdoor season finale event will be cancelled and NET will broadcast “Backyard Farmer” live on Sept. 12 with no studio audience.

To submit a question for the experts, viewers should visit byf.unl.edu. In addition, the “Backyard Farmer” Facebook page features announcements and other garden information. Past features and episodes are available for viewing anytime on the program’s YouTube channel, and as a free podcast on iTunes.

The series is a co-production of NET and Nebraska Extension. It is supported in part by AseraCare Hospice, Campbell’s Nurseries and Garden Centers, Inc., Nebraska Arborists Association, Nebraska Nursery and Landscape Association and Nebraska811.

The season finale episode of “Backyard Farmer” repeats Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. CT on NET; and Sunday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. CT and Monday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. CT on NET Create.
