NET Recognized by Unicameral

Speaker Mike Flood of District 19 introduced Legislative Resolution 631 which was adopted on the floor of the Unicameral April 18, 2012. It recognized NET's history of covering Nebraska legislative activities for the benefit and education of its citizens.
Flood noted an apt inscription above the Capitol's north entrance, "The Salvation of the State is Watchfulness in the Citizen" as he thanked NET for providing Nebraskans access to the Legislature since 1955.

Nebraska's Thunderheads Gather at NET

More than 70 Nebraskans enjoyed a wee bit o’ Ireland right here on the Great Plains when Celtic Thunder performers Emmett Cahill and Keith Harkin visited the NET Studios for a special membership event on March 9. Members’ eyes were smiling as they met the musicians in a private reception, dined on Celtic fare and then enjoyed the live interview of Cahill and Harkin by Membership Director Jenny Herstein in NET’s Studio One.

Around the World in Three Hours

Public broadcasting travel host Rick Steves offered a fascinating slideshow presentation to approximately 950 fans at the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha on Monday, March 12. The popular travel expert kept the crowd riveted for more than three hours at the free event with tales of his European escapes, plus tips on how to travel wisely, creatively and on a budget.

A group of approximately 80 NET members who had pledged Rick Steves’ Europe in December met with Steves at a reception prior to the presentation.

New Planned Giving Site Offers Wealth of Gift-Planning Tools

Nebraska Philanthropy: Investing in Our Future

The latest episode takes a look at Alice's Integrity Loan Fund, a groundbreaking micro-lending program that banks on old-fashioned values like trust and integrity. Retired banker Alice Dittman established the $1 million fund with the help of the Lincoln Community Foundation and Community Development Resources in Lincoln.

Host Jeff Beckman travels to Kearney and visits with UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen about the tremendous upswing that the university is experiencing, largely thanks to philanthropy. More than $3 million in contributions to UNK's Music Department supports a very bright future for orchestra music education and performance throughout central Nebraska. And a Kearney screenwriter is following in the footsteps of the beloved 102-year old philanthropist Carol Cope by scripting a new chapter in the life of a downtown institution, The World Theatre.

Not Your Garden-Variety Donor

As a longtime and loyal member of both NET Television and NET Radio, Kenneth Good particularly enjoyed NET Radio’s Big Band Spotlight, and the nightly news programs on NET Television. He bequeathed $10,000 to each organization’s permanent endowment, where it will support programming in perpetuity. Ken also supported several other organizations close to his heart. But what’s surprising is that even Ken’s closest friends didn’t know that he was a budding philanthropist.
