At any time, about 10 percent of drivers are distracted. They account for about 20 percent of vehicle crashes in Nebraska. Cell phones, passengers, even the radio can distract a driver to the extent that they are risking the safety of themselves and others on the road. Research shows that driving distracted is the same risk as someone with an illegal blood alcohol level of .08. Research also shows that while many people feel they are good at multitasking, it comes with a price and trying to drive while texting or concentrating on a phone conversation is not a good idea.
