The pilot episode of Nebraska Philanthropy: Investing in our Future celebrates the impact of philanthropy throughout the state.
The Pilot features Lee Sapp, business and philanthropist, who was recently named Nebraskan of the Year by the Lincoln Rotary Club. Host Jeff Beckman intercviews Tom Osborne and Dr. Ken Bird, C.E.O. of the Avenues Scholars Foundation in Omaha.
Feature segments include Linda Foxworthy, a reading specialist at Beveridge Magnet School in Omaha. She was the recipient of a scholarship from Lee Sapp in 1983, which enabled the divorced mother of two small boys to become a teacher, and carry on the philanthropic spirit to her students.
A second feature takes us behind the scenes with the Avenue Scholars Foundation in Omaha, which was funded by major support from key philanthropic leaders in the Omaha area. Avenue Scholars provides long term mentorship and assistance to students in several Omaha high schools and colleges, with the goal of raising them from poverty into the middle class.
