It started out as a whim. Now it's one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Nebraska. Cabela's began in a kitchen and grew to a huge outdoor supply company with seven stores throughout the Midwest.
But what do we know about the family behind the name? “Statewide’s Andrea Gallagher spent a day with the company’s founder, Dick Cabela, at the flagship store in Sidney.
Cabela says that if the company had not taken off the way it did, he would likely be working at his family's furniture store in Chappell, Nebraska. Instead, a spontaneous purchase of some Japanese fishing flies turned into a multi-million dollar business with thousands of employees.
