Becoming a Husker

After the musical round, marching auditions begin three months before the first game of the season. There is a training camp. Then the final auditions are held, and rookies and vets are all put through the same paces. They will either make the grade or will be cut. There are severe athletic demands on the marchers.

Student band leaders are an integral part of the process, and they help make the final determination who is in and who is out. At the end of the try out period, the 1999 Cornhusker Marching Band includes 318 members ... another all time high.
