The Mezcal Brothers of Lincoln Nebraska have been playing their brand of Rockabilly for a year and a half now. Members consist of two brothers, Gerardo Meza (guitar, harmonica, lead singer, songwriter), Tony Meza (stand up drummer, bongos, tambourine), Marty Steinhausen (upright bass) and most recently Mark Simpkins (lead guitar). The Meza Brothers have been playing together since childhood, beating on a cardboard box and strumming an old flattop Woolworth guitar that their father bought for $29.95. Rhythm has always been the basis of the Mezcal sound, combining the influences of early legends such as: Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, and the Sun recordings of Elvis Presley. Since the decision was made to create the band, The Mezcal brothers have opened for such acts as: The Hollisters, The Blazers, The Sissies, Kim Lenz, Lee Rocker, Accident Clearinghouse, The Derailers, and Dave Alvin. The next step for the Mezcal Brothers is to do more recording and possibly more touring. Although the Mezcal Brothers have played a variety of venues in and around the Midwest, their favorite place remains their home town of Lincoln Nebraska playing regularly at clubs such as the legendary Zoo bar, and Duffys Tavern.
