Dan Bliss and Blutonium Don't you wish bands played like they used to back in Kansas City's glory days of jazz? Back when Pendergast ran the town and cats like Joe Turner, Count Basie, Jay McShann and Lester Young were swinging all night long in the clubs at 18th and Vine? Back when jazz was fun, the melodies were memorable, the lyrics sometimes clever, sometimes so true they made you nod and say, "Don't you know it? Oh, and the rhythm. That rhythm that came on you and made you dance, even if you were still in your chair. This Bluetonium. Not a novelty band, nor a "retro" band, nor a band that tries to keep jazz alive. This is a band that has simply captured the same spirit for the music as the early K.C. Swing masters. Whether they are performing old, great tunes from the swing era, like McShann's " The Jumpin' Blues" or Basie's "I left My Baby" or performing one of their own originals like Dan Bliss' "Please Don't Tease Me" or John Selzer's "Fat Guy Wiggle," the freewheeling, good-time spirit is the same.
