Nebraska Now: Michael Burton, Animation

Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Michael Burton and his UNL team create animated films that “recover visibilities of people who are mostly left out of the cultural and historical record.” For this exhibition we look at Anna, a film based on the true story of an enslaved woman who jumped to her freedom in early 19th century Washington, D.C.

The undefeated 1954 Omaha University football team played in the ninth annual Tangerine Bowl on January 1, 1955. Lloyd Cardwell coached the team to a 7-6 victory over Eastern Kentucky State. The team was the first from the Midwest to play in this bowl. The Tangerine Bowl was subsequently renamed the Citrus Bowl.

The Afghan Folio features 32 Kodak Dye Transfer prints of Afghanistan by photographer Luke Powell. Powell traveled to Afghanistan during the 1970s and early 1980s to document the beauty and peace of Afghanistan. His photographs show farmlands, villages, and daily lives of Afghans prior to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. The Library acquired The Afghan Folio in 1989.
