Cranes: Taking Flight

In honor of the annual Sandhill Crane migration through Central Nebraska, the Museum of Nebraska Art showcases artworks that pay tribute to this natural phenomenon. While retaining the inherent nature of prefabricated, synthetic, industrial, and everyday materials, Angie Seykora creates objects, installations, and “paintings” that revel in the idea of possibility, and focus on form and texture. Her work speaks of our quickly advancing industrialized world and how that intersects with humanity and a search for beauty. Seykora teaches in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Omaha’s Creighton University.

During the 2015-2017 seasons, National Parks across America displayed 13 art quilts, created to celebrate the centennial of the National Park Service. The quilts were created by Fiber Works, a group of textile artists from the Lincoln-Omaha, Nebraska area. The artists were inspired by their favorite national park site. The quilts have been on a year-long tour of the 13 chosen parks.

This photo storytelling project is a collaboration of the Yazidi community of Lincoln and photographer Jim Lommasson. Images of objects migrants brought with them from Iraq to a new life in Nebraska were photographed by Lommasson. Then captions were hand-written on the images describing the objects and what they mean to the people who brought them. The exhibit prompts viewers to ponder "what would you carry?" Through May 2018

Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation, and publications.
Founded in 1989 by an initial group of 50 artists, SAQA now boasts over 2,900 members: artists, teachers, collectors, gallery owners, museum curators and corporate sponsors.
SAQA defines an art quilt as "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure."
