Innovator Insights

What drives Nebraska’s innovators, big thinkers, risk takers? How do they think? What influences them? What have they learned from? What’s next? We explore this in a separate “What If…” project component, designed for a high school/college age target audience, called “Innovator Insights.”

"What If..." Music

"What If..." celebrates innovation and creativity. So in our stories we're also showcasing original music, submitted for use in the project by a wide range Nebraska composers (like Winston Schneider of Omaha, pictured above during our recording of a "What If..." segment).

  • CLICK HERE for a listing of the songs and composers from each "What If..." story (coming soon)
  • Want to submit your original music for future "What If..." us? Contact Mike Tobias at mtobias@netNebraska.org

Good ideas often start with a simple question. "What if?" Nebraskans answer with innovation and creativity. We tell their stories in our new NET Television series, "What If..."

"What If…" is an exploration of innovation, creativity, invention and discovery," says "What If..." host and producer Mike Tobias. "Stories about interesting Nebraskans with interesting ideas in a wide range of areas, like university research, entrepreneurship, education, economic development and more. It’s a great project because we’re having fun and challenging ourselves creatively to tell these stories in a way that takes you inside the worlds and minds of these innovators."

The first two 30 minute "What If..." programs premiere June 13 on NET Television, telling you about:

  • Called a “FitBit for Cows,” high tech ear tags created by a Lincoln start-up Quantified Ag and founder Vishal Singh make it easier for cattle producers to monitor animal health.
  • How the leaders of Ord started working together and “thinking differently” about economic development, including creating a unique leadership program.
  • Winston Schneider is just a typical Omaha fifth grader who likes Legos, insects, Star Wars…and composing award-winning classical music. And yes, insects inspire the music he creates.
  • The University of Nebraska at Omaha's pioneering biomechanics facility and program is studying human motion and helping people with conditions that restrict movement.
  • Cutting edge 3D, VR and other simulation technology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center's iExcel program is changing health education and improving the preparation of health care professionals.
  • Omaha web hosting start-up Flywheel is changing how and where people work, from dogs and beer in the workplace to different attitudes and ideas about what a workplace should be.
  • A unique Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties program called Growing Great Beginnings is helping people living in poverty learn to cook, meal plan and grow their own food.
  • Denise and Paul Augustyn are breathing new life into old churches using creative approaches and techniques to replicate marble and other more expensive materials.
