Research clearly shows that there is no population more likely to experience crippling poverty, long-term unemployment, low academic achievement, pregnancy too soon, serious mental health issues, incarceration, and homelessness than young people who age out of foster care.

In this Supporting High-Risk Youth program, we’ll explore services and supports required to put these high-risk young people on track to high school graduation, college, and stable employment. We’ll also discuss the innovative approaches already underway in Nebraska, and how these interventions have the potential to save the state hundreds of thousands of dollars for every child in foster care.

"To use a sports metaphor, youth-adult partnerships are like Xs and Os on the blackboard. There needs to be involvement on both sides of the ball in order to win games."
—Gernani, a student with the Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative
