The internationally acclaimed Chiara String Quartet is the current Hixson-Lied Artist-in-Residence at the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Quartet "Plays by Heart", memorizing everything it performs, a difficult but rewarding task. Its catalog consists of pieces by the Hungarian composer, Béla Viktor János Bartók (1881-1945), who meticulously collected and analyzed his region's unpublished folk music, incorporating some into his works.

Written between 1915 and 1917, the String Quartet No. 2 was one of six string quartets by Bartók and premiered March 3, 1918 in Budapest. The ten-minute Moderato is the first of three movements in the quartet, intertwining tonal themes, including a minor-key motif with a medieval quality.
