Listen to this story:
September 6, 2010 - 7:00pm

Growing up in poverty is one of the most significant indicators that a person will end up in some kind of "system" - the welfare system or the criminal justice system - in their lifetime. But the story of people's lives is, of course, always more complex than a series of data. Today you'll meet a prisoner, who grew up in poverty, but says his experience only made him more determined to succeed. Ultimately though, depression and alcoholism took hold. For part five of the KVNO News series, Voices: People in Poverty, Robyn Wisch talked to a man who is trying to transform his life from within the prison walls.
