The bankruptcy proceedings underway by the ethanol company Vera Sun are just one example of the tough times in the industry. High corn prices earlier this year raised the cost of production. Those were followed by falling oil prices, which made it harder for ethanol to compete. Now, some farmers and businesses in Ord are feeling the ripple effects of Vera Sun's troubles.
