NET Radio's "Nebraska Concerts" Features A Variety of Concerts in October

On Sunday, Oct. 3, "Nebraska Concerts" presents music from a concert titled "The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires," with the Omaha Symphony and violinist Amy Sims performing music by Astor Piazzolla. Also on the program is Osvaldo Golijov's "Last Round;" Vivaldi's "Concerto in C Major for Two Trumpets and Orchestra, RV 537" with trumpeters Scott Quackenbush and K. Craig Bircher; and Schubert's "Symphony #3 in D Major, D. 200." This concert is conducted by Omaha's music director Thomas Wilkins.

The next "Nebraska Concerts," airing Sunday, Oct. 10, is from a Lincoln Friends of Chamber Music concert. Cellist Matt Haimovitz, violinist Andy Simionescu and violist Nokuthula Ngwenyama perform Beethoven's "String Trio in G Major, Op. 9, #1" and Jean Francaix's "Trio for Violin, Viola and Cello." Haimovitz and Simionescu also perform Ravel's "Duo for Violin and Cello." With a second violin provided by Elizabeth Suh-Lane, the group plays Beethoven's "Quartet in F Minor, Op. 95 'Serioso.'"

There is no "Nebraska Concerts" performance scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 17, due to NET Radio's annual fund drive.

Lincoln's Third Chair Chamber Players perform works by Alexander Tcherepnin, Chick Corea, Donald Draganski, Ottorino Respighi and Justin Rubin on Sunday, Oct. 24. Also, UNL faculty member Craig Fuller plays the tuba in a recital featuring works by Paul Hindemith, G. Fransesco Malipiero, Alfredo Casella, Robert Schumann, Eric Ewazen, Leo Sowerby and Gweneth Walker. Fellow UNL faculty members Nicole Narboni on piano and Christopher Marks on organ accompany Fuller.

The last program of the month on Sunday, Oct. 31, comes from Lincoln's Arts for the Soul series from First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. Dr. Brian Pfoltner conducts the Spring Choral Concert with assistance from First Presbyterian and Union College (Lincoln) Choirs and organist Dr. Charles W. Ore. They perform choral works by Mack Wilberg, John Donne and Williametta Spencer, Moses Hogan, Dale Grotenhuis, Ennio Morricone, Cesar Franck, Louis Vierne, Charles V. Stanford, Franz Schubert, Charles Gounod and Franz Joseph Haydn.
