Kloefkorn spent most of his professional career as an English Professor at Nebraska Wesleyan University. He continued to write, speak, and lead workshops after his retirement from Wesleyan.
In 1982, the Nebraska Legislature named Kloefkorn the Nebraska State Poet, a position he held for the remainder of his life. He wrote over 20 books of poetry, and a four volume memoir.
His last book, Swallowing the Soap, was published last October by the University of Nebraska Press. Funeral services are pending. A new elementary school in Lincoln is being named for Kloefkorn.
Groundbreaking for the new school is scheduled for Thursday, May 26.
