Two inmates have been found dead at a maximum security prison in southeastern Nebraska after officers regained control of the facility.

The state Department of Correctional Services says inmates took control of at least part of the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution Sunday. A spokesman says staff members were trying to break up a large gathering of inmates in front of a housing unit when the disturbance began.

Two staff members and two inmates were injured.

The spokesman said Monday officers regained control of the facility that houses 11 death row inmates. The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the inmate deaths.

NDCS Director Scott Frakes is set to make a public comment on the incident at 11:30 AM Central time.

NET News will be on the scene and have reports as information becomes available.
