Federal Judge To Rule Later on Nebraska Gay Marriage Ban

Seven same-sex couples hope a federal judge will block Nebraska's ban on gay marriage, but the judge isn't issuing an immediate ruling.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Nebraska is challenging the constitutionality of the state's ban.
U.S. District Judge Joseph Bataillon held a hearing Thursday. The ACLU wanted him to order the state to recognize same-sex marriages immediately while the lawsuit progresses.
The Nebraska Attorney General's office has said it will appeal any decision blocking or overturning the voter-approved ban on gay marriage.
The U.S. Supreme Court announced Jan. 17 that it would decide whether same-sex couples have a right to marry everywhere in America under the Constitution.
A decision is expected by late June. Gay marriage is currently allowed in 37 states and the District of Columbia.
