Pelini Returns Home As Head Coach at Youngstown State

Fired Nebraska Head Football Coach Bo Pelini is returning to his hometown as the new coach at Youngstown State in Ohio. The university made the announcement this afternoon. Pelini begins his duties as the Penguins football coach Wednesday.


Pelini was fired after seven seasons with the Huskers, winning at least nine games each year. In a statement on the Youngstown State website, Pelini says he takes the job “with great passion and enthusiasm. “ He calls it an "exciting time" for his family.

Youngstown State’s football team finished 7-5 this season. Pelini's teams compiled a 67-27 record at Nebraska.

Pelini graduated from Youngstown's Cardinal Mooney High School and was a four-year letterman on the Ohio State football team.

"YSU football has a rich championship tradition and a standard of excellence which our staff and players will work to uphold both on and off the field," Pelini said in the statement on the school's website.
