Omaha residents are invited to join a city-wide visual storytelling effort that launched earlier this week. Members of Leadership Omaha class 43 started the Refocus Omaha project in partnership with nonprofit group BFF Omaha.

Executive Director of the nonprofit Alex Jochim said citizens can submit photos with captions that show their unique perspectives of the community.

"It's a very different and interesting time and as we're coming out of the past year quarantine, we're just trying to see how we are going to refocus as a whole community, the city of Omaha," he said. "How are we going to refocus in this upcoming year? And what images and stories are going to be standing out?"

Melinda Sorensen with Leadership Omaha Class 43 said they want to celebrate and highlight the diverse perspectives of Omaha and bring the city’s communities together through storytelling.

"It's free to participate, and it's open to all ages too so we want this to be even from youth to participate to any age," she said. "We'd really love to include as many diverse perspectives as we can."

Photos will be published weekly on Instagram and will have the chance to be included in a public exhibition in June. Those interested can visit @refocusomaha Instagram page to submit a photo.
