Republican U.S. Senator Ben Sasse is calling out the Nebraska GOP over plans to censure him in response to his criticisms of former President Donald Trump, as well as his objections to party leader's challenges of the 2020 presidential election results.

In a five-minute video posted to one of the senator’s YouTube accounts on Thursday, Sasse blasted the state party, saying the move was not based on violations of conservative principle, but rather, for him not “bending the knee” to the former president.

"Something has definitely changed over the last four years," he said, "But it's not me."

He went on to imply some in the party are stuck in a personality cult dedicated to the former president, and the same members that praised him when was first elected but are now cursing him for not supporting Trump.

“Politics isn’t about the weird worship of one dude,” he said.

News Channel Nebraska first reported the censure motion, adding the Nebraska Republican Party's State Central Committee planned to vote to censure on Feb. 13, 2021 when the party convenes in Columbus, Nebraska.
