Five Spanish-speaking doctors in the Omaha area will discuss COVID-19 and answer questions from the pubic in a virtual forum Wednesday.

The Douglas County Health Department is hosting the event along with community partner La Casa del Pueblo.

"There's too many things going on at the upper echelons, politically, that don't seem to have a direct line of communication with our community of Latinos, immigrants, Spanish-speaking," said La Casa del Pueblo Director Ben Salazar. "I said, let's see if we can fill that void. Not just to inform, but to inspire, to give hope to our community that there are people who care."

COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted minority populations in the United States, including in Nebraska. Hispanic Nebraskans have been infected with COVID-19 at rates about three times the rate of non-Hispanic Nebraskans.

The five doctors who will speak at the forum represent area hospitals including the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Children's Hospital, CHI Health Clinic, and Creighton University.

They will offer the latest information about COVID-19 in local communities as well as answer questions submitted live. The entire forum will be in Spanish.
