Voting is winding down in Nebraska. Polls are set to close at 8 p.m. Turnout was high today at Precinct 12G-2, one poll worker said it looked like turnout was double or even triple what she’s used to in a presidential election.
Voter Jean Degraff, a 71-year-old transcriber for the state legislature, said she wanted to vote in-person so she could see her neighbors and others who will be impacted by the election.
“I like to see their faces," Degraff said. "I like to know that I'm doing something for the people, not just me, but for the people around me and my community.”
Voter Jay Utterback said he wasn’t sure what to expect at the polls but was glad the process ended up feeling pretty normal. The 56 year old said today is a big decision for the country.
“It really is. It's a big day. So it'd be interesting to see how the day turns out," Utterback said. "It will be very interesting to see how both sides take it, in whichever side theirs is, because there will be a losing side and it'd be interesting to see how that plays out.”
Utterback said he’s surprised by the number of people who voted today. Before any polls opened, over half a million Nebraskans had already cast their ballots. He said higher turnout is always good for the country, no matter how the election turns out.
