Fewer Nebraskans filed first-time jobless claims last week as the state continues to recover jobs lost during the pandemic.

The Nebraska Department of Labor reported 3,126 new jobless claims and 1,718 pandemic unemployment assistance (PUA) claims last week. That’s compared to 3,199 first-time claims the week before.

Almost 28,000 Nebraskans are continuing their PUA claims but that’s a significant drop, around 7,000 fewer, compared to the week before. Douglas, Lancaster, and Sarpy counties continue to have the most unemployment claims in the state.
