The Central District Health Department COVID-19 data dashboard shows new cases in Hall County.

Grand Island-area health officials say coronavirus mitigation efforts are working two weeks after public schools re-opened for in-person instruction.

Central District Health Director Teresa Anderson says several schools in the area have people who have tested positive.

"The measures that we’re taking now are designed to help keep the schools open even if children have to be excluded for a period of time," Anderson said.

An entire classroom at Engleman Elementary School was put in quarantine last week after a student with symptoms tested positive.

All students and staff members are required to wear face coverings. But the health department said the student’s runny nose could have compromised the effectiveness of the mask, and so all classmates are considered a high risk close contact.

New COVID-19 cases in Hall County increased about 54% in the last two weeks of August, but numbers are significantly lower than the county’s peak at the end of April.
