Lancaster County Health Officials reported 330 new COVID-19 cases last week, the highest number of cases since the pandemic began.

A new mask mandate took effect Monday and will expire on August 31.

Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department Director Pat Lopez said the mandate emphasizes the importance of masks.

"We continue to focus on education and support in wearing face coverings, because they’re effective at curbing transmission of the virus," Lopez said. "Evidence demonstrates that wearing a face covering makes a difference."

Lopez said the first couple of days with the mandate have gone well.

She said many businesses and community members have asked how the policy affects them, and the department will continue to provide support.
