Bryan Health Officials Say COVID-19 Test Results Delayed Because of National Demand

July 7, 2020 - 3:25pm

Bryan Health in Lincoln said COVID-19 test turnaround times have been longer because of the national demand on processing labs. Vice President of Advancement Bob Ravenscroft said Bryan’s two types of quicker, in-house testing are reserved for hospital admissions, healthcare workers, first-responders and those needing surgery. He said the type of test used at the drive-through clinic has been affected by the delay since the tests are sent to an external lab.

“We’re now pushing into the 4-6 day area for these because of what’s happening in Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California. Many organizations are using the same reference labs, and they are just frankly inundated,“ Ravenscroft said.

Ravenscroft said the delay is concerning because it is limiting the ability to track where the virus is in the community, which will be even more important as schools begin to open up in the next month.
