The Lincoln Community Foundation says it raised almost $7 million during its 9th annual Give to Lincoln Day fundraising effort Thursday.

Residents were asked to donate to 448 nonprofits that signed up, either online or through the mail.

President of the foundation Babra Bartel said helping the community seemed more important than ever this year.

"Not only were the nonprofits on the front line working, but also many of them had to cancel their fundraisers this spring," Bartel said. "So it's wonderful that the nonprofits are so supported. The community was just so very generous."

Each non-profit will also receive a proportional share of a $500,000 match fund provided by the Lincoln Community Foundation and its sponsors. Results from Give to Lincoln Day will be final on June 2 and match fund dollars will be distributed then.
