Sarpy County to Reopen Offices by Appointment Only

May 12, 2020 - 11:54am

Sarpy County offices will reopen by appointment only Monday, according to the Sarpy County Board of Commissioners, making it the first county with more than 40,000 residents in Nebraska to do so.

Sarpy County spokeswoman Megan Stubenhofer-Barrett said the county offices added precautions – like glass between employees and visitors and signage to control walking flow – to ensure visitors' safety.

“Safety for the public and our employees is, obviously, our top priority," Stubenhofer-Barrett said. "But we do want to make sure we are out there providing all of the necessary services we have. We just want to make sure we’re doing it in a really cautious, really smart thought-out way.”

Passport applications, among other things, are tasks that can’t be processed while the Sarpy County offices have been closed, Stubenhofer-Barrett said. Things like vehicle registration will be much easier for the county to do in person because of large amounts of paperwork.

Starting on Friday morning, Sarpy County residents can schedule appointments online at sarpy.com.

Sarpy County recommends using online or over-the-phone services, if possible. Appointments will be available 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the first hour dedicated to senior citizens, according to the press release.
