The University of Nebraska is closing all campuses effective April 8, according to an email sent Tuesday from President Ted Carter.

Carter cites public health models predicting a peak of COVID-19 cases sometime in late April.

The closure applies to all employees, including student workers, for at least two weeks.

"We have been planning for this scenario for several weeks and have been engaged with our leadership teams in a process to determine those employees whose physical presence is necessary on campus," the email said. "These may include all of our health care workers, public safety officers, housing and dining personnel and others."

Employees are eligible to take up to 160 hours of emergency paid administrative leave.

The letter says employees should plan to work remotely "until further notice."
