State Officials Release Survey to Gather Public Opinion on Housing, Infrastructure, and Economic Development

The state of Nebraska is encouraging its residents to participate in a survey to help gather data for a five-year plan for the state.

Coordinator Rebecca Schademann said the Consolidated Plan will identify needs for housing, public facilities and infrastructure and identify how the state will allocate close to $94 million to meet those needs along with local funding. Additionally, she said the data will help public leaders align programs with the public’s needs.

Schademann said the survey in particular is focused on community and economic development and housing.

“We are taking a look at what labor force needs are out there in regards to housing. We’re taking a look at what types of housing do the public think we need more of…do we need more rentals, do we need more single family housing? And [identifying] what are some of the barriers to developing new housing,” Schademann said.

Schademann said there will be opportunities for the public to voice their opinions and discuss data with state officials, one in person this Thursday at Lincoln’s Bennett Martin Public Library and during two webinars that will be held on February 6th and 13th.
